A meeting of North Country Riding Club was held on January 29, 2004 at the snowmobile club at 7:00 P.M. There were many old and new members in attendance.
The Secretary's Report was read and the Minutes were accepted
The Treasurer's Report was read. The Treasurer's Report was accepted.
Old Business: None presented.
The 4th Annual Dexter Winter Festival plans were discussed. There was discussion on using Travis Gould and his team to pull the sleigh for sleigh rides. Travis was present to let people know about his insurance, etc. It was agreed that he be hired for the rides. Volunteers will help him unload the sleigh the night before. It was also agreed the North Country Youth Group would do a snow sculpture.
Wild West Weekend will be held July 30, 31 and August 1, 2004. There is already significant interest in the Wild West Weekend and members are thinking about ways to improve the weekend. It was suggested that the kids be dressed as cows and a cattle drive made through town.
There was discussion that Judy Craig does a tremendous amount of work as Media Person and should be on the Board of Directors. Motion moved & accepted.
There was discussion of forming a Youth Group. Kristen Lane as nominated to head the group nominated by Judy Craig and was seconded by Noreen Peters. The NCRC Youth Group will work on the snow sculpture for Winter Festival. Diane & Ashley Chabot, Phoebe Kelley, Kim Derosier, Lori Chabot, Judy Edgerly, Kristen Lane and Noreen Peters will assist.
Lori Chabot will be using the Pepsi Wagon to serve sweets and hot cocoa and coffee. The Youth Group will assist her and any members available as well.
There was discussion on the existing Program Book. Judy Craig spoke about creating a new form and keeping the form simpler. There will be further discussion at the next meeting.
There was discussion about the liability insurance and the necessity for an increase in limits by President Bonnie Shorey. The equine liability law also needs to be posted on the registration building.
Helmets will be mandatory for everyone under age 18 at all shows. Also new this year is requirements in Rabies vaccine. NCRC will be requiring yearly Proof of Rabies vaccines on every horse allowed on the show grounds. Foxcroft Vet Service was contacted and stated that now rabies is required yearly. Yearly - meaning must be completed and a recorded within one year of NCRC event.
The NCRC Irene Scholarship Scholarship Committee was discussed. Marsha Delaware, Lori Chabot, Gloria Leighton, Belinda, and Bonnie Shorey will comprise the committee by motion made and granted.
There was significant discussion about show season. Because of conflicting graduation dates and other eventing meets, the matter was put to a vote. By majority vote, the following are the dates for shows and the trail rides:
Guy Currier will head up the game shows as he did such a good job last year and is contacting Barrett Paving again to sponsor the Trophies.
Tim Briggs in selling tickets for a homemade cradle. If his organization can raise $500, another will kick in another $500, which would be, give to Irene Cochran's scholarship fund. It was voted that he bring the tickets and cradle to Winterfest to attempt to sell additional tickets.
Motion to adjourn was made and seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
