Tale Of The Tape
In previous years, horse owners had no defense against tapeworms-more accurately, none that were approved by the Food and Drug Administration. While tapeworm infestation isn't a widespread problem, according to Merial Pharmaceuticals, "Veterinary reports over the last 10 years point to an increasing prevalence of tapeworm infection and (some types of) colic." Merial's Zimectrin Gold is the first equine dewormer licensed by the FDA for the control of equine tapeworms in the United States, combining two active ingredients, ivermectin, and praziquantel, to control 61 species and stages of equine parasites, in addition to tapeworms.
